Can someone say that you cannot do this? Do you believe those people? Won’t you feel like you have to do that and tell them “I am doing”?
Yes! That’s what I did.
“Being a Biomedical Engineer is not just easy. You have to
travel intensively, have to complete your work irrespective of time. You have
to be ready all the time to reach the customer. You have to face awkward situations
when you cannot repair the machine. And you have to lift heavy machines and their
accessories, your hands will get hurt, you may get tanned, your nails may get
damaged, cannot dress like a regular Woman. So being an engineer is difficult for
women”. This is what they told once to me when I am in college.
Because of this, most of the girls in my college fled
towards Software companies and after one or two years they quit and got
married.
The number of girls Joining Biomedical Engineering Degree is
more than thrice that of Men. But later completing the degree, the number of
women working in the Biomedical engineering field is just only around five
percent or even less than that.
After entering this Industry I came to know many
Engineers in the Biomedical industry. Those engineers are not actually
biomedical engineers. They are from different backgrounds like Electrical,
Electronics, mechanical, and even from the Diploma. They are entering this industry
without any basic knowledge about life science and only they sustain.
My dream was to become a top woman Entrepreneur in India but
later my graduation I wanted to be an inspiration for upcoming biomedical
engineers especially women. So sustained till now in this role as service
engineer where I am lifting heavy machines which are making me stronger
physically, facing an awkward situation when I fail to finish my work which
makes me accept, analyze and correct my mistakes, I cannot dress and groom like
woman, which reduces my expenses on buying cosmetics and dresses, I am getting
tanned, my hands and nails are getting hurt which makes some men admire me, I
am traveling alone which gives me “only me time” to build myself and take care
of myself.
Doing all this now I am fed up with my budding Biomedical
Engineers who always used to ask me about my salary.
Yes! I am paid less. But it is ok for me because I am satisfied.
Whoever graduated with a life science subject should always
be ready to do service for lives as doctors do. Only doctors cannot save a
life, they need equipment, tool, and medicine to do their service. Biomedical
engineers are not just engineers like software engineers; they are supposed to
do their duty at any cost.
Ya!!! Proud to be a service Engineer and still standing among the men with heads up!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat attitude Lady
DeleteAs a person I know you very well Mam and I am assuring you that you are already an inspiration for some upcoming biomedical engineers .. long way to go and we all proud of you..
